Fraxel®

Reveal your radiance.

One treatment that accomplishes so much! Fraxel is a non-ablative laser (meaning it doesn’t remove the top layer of skin) that gives you all the skin resurfacing benefits of improved skin tone, texture, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation without the downtime typically associated with ablative lasers.

WHAT IS THE FRAXEL LASER USED FOR?

Revive uses the Fraxel® laser to treat uneven pigmentation and deep wrinkles, acne scarring, as well as sunspots, melasma, and actinic keratosis. The Fraxel® Dual 1550/1927 Laser can be used all across the face and body. It features many benefits, including:

  • Minimized fine lines and wrinkles
  • Lightened age and sun spots
  • Diminished melasma and hyperpigmentation
  • Improved appearance of surgical and acne scars
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Effective treatment of actinic keratosis

HOW DOES FRAXEL WORK?

Fraxel laser treatments are completely customizable to treat specific, individual skin conditions by stimulating the production of healthy, new skin. The Fraxel laser uses unique fractional laser technology to create micro-injuries deep beneath the surface of the skin.

Fraxel’s fractional technology creates micro-thermal zones (similar to a pixel-like grid) deep into the skin, which helps get rid of—and revitalize—old, sun-damaged skin. Each treatment replaces about 15-20% of the sun-damaged, scarred, or wrinkled skin, which is why it may take a few treatments. Fraxel offers the same effectiveness as the harsher, yet effective ablative laser treatment, but with the speedy healing time associated with the gentler, non-ablative lasers.

As the skin begins to heal, the channels repair themselves by creating new collagen and healthy skin. Imperfections like brown spots, wrinkles, and scar tissue are replaced with smooth, toned and more youthful-looking skin.

WHY IS FRAXEL BETTER THAN OTHER LASER SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS?

At Revive, we use the Fraxel Dual system for all of fractional resurfacing. Here’s what makes it superior to other laser resurfacing options!

The Fraxel Dual system is actually two lasers in one. There is a 1927nm wavelength that is used for pigmentation problems, such as sunspots. And there is the 1550nm wavelength that is used to improve skin texture, acne scarring, and lines and wrinkles.

At Revive, we use Fraxel Dual with both wavelengths or separately depending on the needs of the individual patient.

  • Fraxel 1927nm — Sunspots, age spots, freckles, melasma, or actinic keratoses. No one likes these pigmentation issues, and that’s what this aspect of the Fraxel Dual system targets with its thulium fiber component.
  • Fraxel 1550nm — This wavelength is in effect an erbium laser. It penetrates deeper into the dermis layer of the skin to initiate higher levels of collagen and elastin production. This improves the appearance of acne scars, wrinkles, overall skin texture and tone.

Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.

Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you’re in the sun.

It depends on your particular condition and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is treated, continue to protect it as described above. Your physician will give you specific advice based on your individual needs.

  • Wrinkles around the eyes (periorbital wrinkles)
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
    Age spots/sunspots (pigmented lesions)
  • Melasma (irregular patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and nose)
  • Actinic Keratosis
  • Skin resurfacing
  • Smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Reduction of unwanted brown spots
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars

Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, you and the physician may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allow for healing and the production of new collagen to replace damaged tissue.

First, your skin will be cleansed. Then, about 60 minutes prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic ointment will be applied to the treatment area. The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 procedure takes 20 to 25 minutes for a full face.

Treatment pricing will vary depending on individual skin conditions and desired clinical outcomes, as well as regional location and preferred provider. Please visit our Physician Locator to find providers in your area who can provide accurate pricing information.
