Microneedling is aimed at stimulating the body’s own collagen production to tighten, lift, rejuvenate, and restore the skin by creating microchannels into the epidermis to release growth factors that produce scarless healing of the skin. It is also intended to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and minimize pores, stretch marks, and scarring.

Perhaps you’ve also heard of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) – popularly known as the “vampire facial.”
HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WITH PRP WORK?
In this setting, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is derived from a small sample of your own blood. It contains a high concentration of growth factors that have been used for over 20 years for cellular rejuvenation, healing, and collagen production. A blood draw is performed from the arm region and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP. The PRP separates into a yellow substance that is filled with growth factors. PRP is drawn off and then used topically, during your microneedling treatment, to aid in collagen production and rejuvenation in that given area.
Your aesthetician will apply a topical anesthetic to your face. They will then pass over it with a microneedling pen. The microneedling pen pricks tiny holes in your skin, stimulating its natural healing processes – and creating channels for the PRP. The tiny breaks in the skin stimulate collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, which allows for facial rejuvenation by reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and scars. Your aesthetician will massage the PRP into the treated areas of the skin. This helps the platelets and beneficial growth factors in PRP penetrate deep into your skin so they can work their rejuvenating magic!
Microneedling (with or without PRP) can improve a variety of skin conditions! Even if you’re lucky enough not to have any of these issues, you may want to consider microneedling with PRP to improve your skin’s tone, texture, and overall appearance.
In sum, microneedling with PRP is a powerful treatment for a variety of common skin concerns!
TREATMENT EXPECTATIONS:
- Before PRP injections, drink plenty of water! This will aid us in drawing blood and obtaining more plasma.
- After PRP is applied topically, the client should plan for 1-2 days of healing due to redness and/or irritation.
- PRP results may vary from client to client.

Most patients see results after the first treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health. It is most common to begin to see true changes or positive results as soon as 1-2 weeks after the first treatment.
It is normal for the skin to peel after microneedling treatments as a new layer of skin is produced and the old skin begins peeling off. The peeling will be minimal, similar to a mild sunburn.
Laser therapy and microneedling can be used effectively together to produce optimal skin rejuvenation. Both procedures stimulate collagen production.
By themselves, laser skin treatments and microneedling can help you enjoy younger-looking skin. You will notice improvements in texture, tone, and firmness.
For optimal results, many patients prefer to combine these treatments for optimal skin rejuvenation!
There is some discomfort associated with microneedling, but a topical numbing cream can be applied prior to the procedure to minimize discomfort.
- Clients will undergo a blood draw. The blood draw allows the provider to then extract the platelet-rich plasma from the client’s own blood using a centrifuge.
- A topical numbing cream will be applied to the designated treatment area.
- Once the PRP has been extracted and enough PRP has been harvested, it is then applied throughout the microneedling treatment.

I have tried a few places since moving to the Quad Cities from Chicago and finally found this gem.
